Should you ban AI on Fridays?

(Watch the video summary or read the full article below.)

It sounds like a joke: “Maybe we should just ban AI on Friday afternoons.” 😅

However, the more you think about it, the more it makes sense.

By Friday afternoon, people are tired, rushing to finish the week and more likely to skip the extra checks.

Now add AI.

Tools like Microsoft Copilot can draft emails, summarise documents and generate responses in seconds. That’s incredibly useful.

But when the output looks polished, it’s easy to think:

“That looks fine.”

And hit send.

That’s where small problems can creep in:

  • The wrong tone in an email
  • A response that isn’t quite appropriate
  • Information that hasn’t been properly checked
  • Something technically correct, but wrong for the situation

There’s another risk too.

The more we rely on AI to do the thinking, the less we may challenge what it produces. Over time, that can weaken critical thinking and decision-making.

So perhaps “no AI on Fridays” isn’t such a crazy idea after all. 😄

You don’t need to switch AI off. However, do need sensible habits around it.

Make it normal to check AI-generated content before it goes out, particularly emails, customer communications, parent communications and anything representing your organisation.

AI is a great assistant.

But you still need a human in the loop.

Especially at 4:30pm on a Friday. 😉

If you’re using AI across your business or school and need sensible guidelines for your team, get in touch.
